* Night Sky *
The past few weeks we have been studying the night sky. We have learned about stars and constellations, meteors, the moon and it's phases. To go along with some of our writing the kids painted a moon using bubble art. We had so much fun. They experimented with different size bubbles and decided that the bigger the bubbles the cooler the "craters"for their moons, (and the more paint that got on your face, which became a contest in itself.) The final product was then added to their beautiful Moon Poetry.
Next, we created the phases of the moon with cookies. YUM!
The students opened their cookies and cerated the phases by shaping the filling in the middle. They had to put the cookies in correct moon phase order beginning with New Moon which happens when the moon is directly between the Sun and the Earth. Here are the phases and what they look like. (In cookie form.) The phases of the moon, that they are trying to show are: New moon, waxing crescent, first quarter or half moon, waxing gibbous, full moon, waning gibbous, waning quarter or waning half moon, waning crescent, new moon.
